Kajukenbo Arizona: What is Kajukenbo?   [HOME]

Dobson Ranch Demo
Kajukenbo Arizona is located in Dobson Ranch, in Mesa. Sifu and Simou have lived in the Dobson Ranch community for about 16 years. This year was the 35th anniversary for Dobson Ranch. We celebrated with the rest of the community with stage performances by local schools and businesses.

Our school had a wonderful time participating and showing their talents in the Martial Arts.

Way to go Kajukenbo Arizona!

Little Dragon's in Competition
We train for real-world self defense. Even so, we still enjoy the opportunities we get to show our stuff at events and tournaments. This is one of little dragons showing her stuff...way to go Abby!

Our Little Dragons program encourages self-control, discipline, listening skills and increasing focus and concentration.

GM Allen Abad Gives Advice n Ground Techniques (12/07/07)
During our pre-test on December 7th, GM Abad provided some words of encouragement and theproceeded to demonstrate ground work. We were awarded with the treat of his demonstration of skills. This not too long after learning of his fight with pancreatic cancer and his hospitalization.

The Pit Training (2/7 - 2/10/2008)
Sifu Kelly learned about the opportunity to train with John Hacklleman, Chuck Liddel's trainer. Sifu could not pass up the opportunity to learn and bring back techniques to add to the Kaju AZ repetoire.

The training was intense. Each morning some outdoor exercize that involed 90 pound D-Balls (medicine balls that won't break when dropped!) and wheelbarrows full of dumbbells. Sprinting up the hill for 5 minute rounds is not fun, but it sure prepares the body for a fight.

Walking up a hill with 65 pound dumb bells in each hand is ot fun...but then doing elephants with one of them is even less fun. Of course, each person was awarded weight that was comparable to their size. Enough weight that no matter who you were, you would feel the burn.

20 pound sledges have to be special ordered. Hacklema must have an inside source for overweight sledges! Pounding on the tire for a 5 minute round will work you in ways that are amazing.

After hitting the tire for a round, flip it for another round!

Day time workouts were used to learn techniques. Grapple defense, striking, kicking techniques, etc. Working with professional fighters was a real treat.
The night workouts were indoors. Chelsea's are a great way of performing a continuous workout that works the whole body. Tabada's are another means to prepare the body for fighting rounds.

Working with other martial artists interested in learning new training techniques made the seminar go quickly and was one of the hilights of the seminar.
